Mackay Writers

WELCOME to our Mackay Writers group website. I am Paul Vander Loos. I founded the group in 1985 after sending a letter to the editor in The Daily Mercury. It has been an interesting ride through the years. We were in there at the start in co-founding the Mackay Festival of Arts; we hosted a writers' weekend during that first festival and have since staged and taken part in many events. We have staged workshops with guest authors, performed poetry at various venues, published three anthologies and celebrated many Christmases together. 

 

Meetings are held on the last Saturday of each month (February to November) from 7pm at the JUBILEE COMMUNITY ROOMS off Alfred Street and adjacent the MECC. We conduct a workshop on some topic of writing each meeting followed by discussion on books etc. 

 

Interested in joining us. You are welcome to come along to two of our meetings without obligation. Membership is $5 a year which includes our monthly newsletters for the year.
